These are questions you need to give honest answers to before proceeding to start a blog. Alright, here is how you can start a blog in Nigeria;
1. Get a Domain Name
The first thing you have to do is to first get a domain name. A domain name is the name you want to use as your blog url. Do you want to use your name or a name of the niche you want to blog about?
Do a brainstorming of list of names you will like to sue and write them down. Then, go to Google search engine and type them, check if they are already been used or not so you can move forward to the next step.
If you have gotten a name that has not been used, then move to step 2.
2. Register and Host the Domain Name
Now that you already have a domain name, it is left for you to go and buy and host it. You can do this here in Nigeria, there are many web hosting companies in Nigeria that are reliable to give you great customer service experience.
Just Google ‘web hosting companies in Nigeria’ and you will see lots of them. I am yet to hear of anyone been scam with these web hosting companies. So, just visit their sites and if you find the one you would like to register your domain with, then contact them.
3. Get a Well-Designed Template
After you domain has been propagated (it takes a maximum of 48 hours), you will be email your login details to your control panel so you can activate your site and install a platform for your blog.
WordPress, Blogger and Tumblr is the most popular blogging platform most people you. You can choose anyone you already have in mind, which was why I first told you to answer those questions above.
Whatever platform you choose to use, your blog need a good template (theme) because each of these platforms has their own default theme which can’t be use. So, you will need to get a good theme for your blog.
From your theme menu, there are lot of free themes you can choose from that will suit you. Select and pick from the numerous theme available to you or you can choose to buy a premium if you have the money.
Make sure you choose a desktop and mobile responsive theme for your blog so that it will be friendly to both mobile and desktop viewers.
4. Start Publish Content
Login to your new blog and start blogging. Input your username and password, it will take you to your blog dashboard. This is the backstage of your blog from where you do everything your readers cannot see.
Move your cursor to the ‘Posts’ section and click ‘Add New’ from the submenu that pop out.
Add your title, copy and paste your content to the open space you will see. Add images if you want to and hit the publish button. Wullah! You are live. The whole world can see your post now and congratulation, you are now a blogger.
5. Download Relevant Plugins
You need good plugins to make blogging easy for you. Each platform has its own plugins, but if you are blogging on WordPress, I will suggest you install Yoast SEO plugin, JetPack, Askimet and many others.
In conclusion, you don’t get to know everything about blogging in a day or weeks. As you continue to blog, you learn new things, and also don’t fail to ask other bloggers questions when you don’t know something. There are things I have learnt just by asking questions.
Don’t forget to take advantage of social media sharing buttons on your blog, make sure you activate them so you and your readers can share your post on the different social media platforms.
