Mark Zuckerberg, the youngest billionaire in the world is popularly known as the founder of Facebook. The problem with that is that, people relate his wealth to the success of Facebook alone among his numerous achievements.
Unknowingly to all that there are some secrets behind his success and fame.
After going through a video of an interview of Mark Zuckerberg I recently watch on YouTube, reading a book titles, “Think Like Zuck” and how I have been following him, I intend writing about his success secrets so entrepreneurs who are striving for his kind of success can have a blueprint of how they too can achieve such mark.
Here are 5 success secrets of Mark Zuckerberg that I believe play a major part of Mark Zuckerberg success and fame.
The first success secrets on my list is passion. This is one traits that is common with successful people around the world. Everyone knows that Mark was a drop out but only few knew why he was.
Mark has to drop out from Harvard because he was so passionate about his idea for his invention.
This sacrifices alone made him achieved his dream. He fell in love with programming that when his friends were out partying, he was always in his dorm room coding his website until early in the morning.
Zuckerberg is famous with the saying, “Find that thing you are super passionate about.” Being super-passionate about your work is the very key to achieving success especially in the world of IT.
Even till date, his colleagues do find him writing codes in weekends and holidays. This shows that being a billionaire doesn’t take him away from his passion. It also shows that money is not a factor of why he is doing what he is doing.
Will you continue with your passion after you have become a billionaire?
After passion comes purpose for most successful people on earth and Mark Zuckerberg is one of them. Mark has always stay true to his purpose for Facebook which is, “to ensure more openness and connection in the world”. So what needs or wants does Facebook meet?
Focusing on the primary purpose for creating your company is a sure way for success for you. Mark Zuckerberg did not achieve his success by luck on how beautiful and easy Facebook is. He achieved his success by sticking to his purpose for creating Facebook.
3. The Big Dream
Not so many people would have believed that a site that started as a college project in a dorm room will eventually turn to become a worldwide phenomenon. Mark had a big dream of one billion members for Facebook that when Yahoo offered him a billion dollars he refused. According to him, money was not the main reason he created Facebook. Start small but think big is one sure word for anybody that want to build a billion-dollar company in the future.
So, if you want to achieve great success like Mark Zuckerberg, you need to have the big picture in your mind and stick through it. It should be one of your guiding principles. That dream/desire should be very strong.
As a popular saying, it should be your BIG WHY. Where do you see your company 5 years from today? And why?
4. Be Prepared for Criticism
It is normal for entrepreneurs to be ready to face criticism from either their family members, friends or customers. Mark has also gotten his fair share of criticism. Not only has he suffered law suits from his former founders but has also been banned from various countries.
In all these, he refused to be cowed by them. Criticism will always be there on your road to the top of success. Don’t let it hold you back, use it as a stepping stone to climb forward. Mark and his team has always remained strong in the face of different adversity.
5. Learn to take Risk
What risk did Zuckerberg take, did it pay off? I am yet to see any successful entrepreneur or read any success stories of any entrepreneur that did not take one or two risk on their way to success. Mark took a risk by dropping out of Harvard to focus on his project.
He also took a bigger risk by confronting Google. Facebook itself was a risky venture because there was no guarantee that Facebook will become a successful company at last.
Risk taking is essential for success as an entrepreneur. “In today’s rapidly changing world, the people who are not taking risk are the risk takers.” – Robert Kiyosaki
Don’t set limit on yourself and your business. Not taking risk is a risk itself.
Now that you have read through the success secrets of Mark Zuckerberg, it is left for you to follow these Mark Zuckerberg skills and characteristics and create a business that will not only make you money but stick to it vision and purpose. Think like Zuck!
