Who is the richest African king in history?
Who are the kings that control the wealth of this great continent of ours? Before now, nobody put eyes on kings regarding to their wealth because we believed they get it only from their kingdom and if their kingdom is prospering, the king also prosper.

But now the story has changed. Kings are now among the list of the richest people in Africa. Kings now invest outside their kingdom and internationally.

Forbes an American business magazine has released the list of the richest kings in Africa and I will be listing them one after the other.


1. King Mohammed VI, Morocco

King Mohammed VI Estimated net worth: $2 billion

HRM King Mohammed VI of Morocco is the number in the list of the richest kings or monarch in Africa. He ascended the throne in 1999 after the death of his father. His fortune is gotten from SNI (Sociétè Nationale d' Investissement), a large Moroccan investment company. His investment involves stakes in mining company Managem Group; mass distribution giant Marjane Holding and mobile telecoms company Inwi. He controls a large chuck of the world's phosphate reserves.

2. Oba Obateru Akinrutan (The Olugbo of Ugbo land in Ondo State)

Oba Obateru Akinrutan Estimated net worth: $300 Million

He is the traditional king of a small oil producing community in Ondo state in Nigeria. He owns the biggest tank farms in Africa. He was once below the ranking of the 5 richest kings in Nigeria before Forbes reported that he has unseat Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Ooni of Ife in Osun state. Who was at the number one position of the richest kings in Nigeria.

After Forbes magazine released a new list for 2016, Oba Obateru Akinrutan was listed at the second position on the list of the richest Kings in Africa after King Mohammed VI, of Morocco now making him the number one in Nigeria. He invests in real estate, oil business. He is the owner of Obat Oil, a privately held oil trading company. He was the first black man to buy a 2014 model of a Bentley car while in 2012. A car specially made for Queen Elizabeth of England alone. He is a powerful and an industrious king.

3. Oba Okunade Sijuwade (The Past Ooni of Ile-Ife in Osun State)

Oba Okunade Sijuwade Estimated net worth: $75 million

He is the ruler of an ancient city in Osun state. He was officially coronated as king Ooni of Ile-Ife in 1980. Oba Okunade Sijuwade ascended the throne in 1980. He have a degree in business which he studied in the United Kingdom. After returning back, he was employed in Leventis Group as a manager. He has also work for National Motor as a sales executive before going on his own to start WAATECO in 1964. The company imported cars and vehicle parts to sell in Nigeria. He went on and on until he became an industrious man. He is the owner and founder of Sijuwade Group, a very big business firm with investment in real estate, construction, oil and gas and hospitality.

4. King Mswati III, Swaziland.

King Mswati III Estimated net worth: At least $50 million

He is the controller of an investment holding company called Tibiyo TakaNgwane with stakes in Sugar refining. His love for women can't be broken. The last time a check was done, he already has 15 wives. He is still at his 40's. His source of wealth is through multiple investments via Tibiyo TakaNgwane which involves dairy company parmalet Swaziland, spirits manufacturer Swaziland beverages etc.

5. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Ashanti in Ghana.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu Estimated net worth: $10 million.

He is the king of Ashanti, a kingdom popularly known for it abundance of gold and the largest ethnic group in Ghana known as the Asantes. Otunfuo Osei Tutu II ascended the throne and serves as the head of the Asante people politically and spiritually in 1999. He has worked in both private and public organization in the United Kingdom and Canada before returning to his country in 1989. He is the founder of Transpomech Ghana, a $12 million sales company that provides mining equipment to various big industrious companies in Ghana.

This is the current list of the richest kings/monarch in Africa according to the American business magazine Forbes.
